How do you cope with redundancy?

After I left school I embarked on an apprenticeship in engineering; a fascinating experience to an otherwise protected and sheltered young man. I had suddenly been thrust into this man’s world, consequently I had to learn a whole ‘raft’ of new terminology. Some of it I wouldn’t dare repeat to my parents, however some of it was necessary for learning the job. there were of course the elements you instantly discarded as, shall we say unnecessary, whilst other elements you couldn’t understand but felt you had to learn.
